Leela Stake is a director based in APCO’s San Francisco office.
Our team at APCO Worldwide was just named to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) A-List again this year. We are proud to receive this recognition for our industry-leading work.
We were an early entrant in the area of CSR communications and stakeholder engagement. Over more than two decades, APCO Worldwide has offered clients corporate social responsibility (CSR) counsel and support and continued to strengthen our approach. Some clients, like UPS*, have been with us from the start – a testament to our ability to cultivate longstanding relationships built on mutual trust and respect.
As the field has evolved and matured, so has our practice. Today, we have a global team of CSR professionals spread across 32 offices around the world helping clients engage on a range of environmental, social, and governance issues.
Here are some highlights of our recent work:
- Working with Bank of America* to develop its first two CSR reports – the first in 2011 and the second in 2012. Using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as a guide, the reports give a comprehensive, honest, and transparent view of the Bank’s business and its plans to improve in the coming years. APCO engaged with more than 100 internal stakeholders to tell a “one bank” story and a host of external experts to provide outside perspectives.
- Helping to develop the Mars* Ambassador Program, a volunteer program that sends employees on volunteer assignments in communities around the world as well as the Mars Volunteer Program enabling employees to volunteer in their local communities.
- Positioning the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI)* as the “go-to” science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education partner for U.S. corporations. APCO worked with NMSI to release its 2011-2012 Advanced Placement (AP) Program test scores, specifically targeting potential funders and education influencers. APCO conducted media outreach, created a motion graphic video that powerfully demonstrated NMSI’s impact, and developed a brochure to introduce NMSI to funders.
In our view, CSR is about working to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of companies’ diverse stakeholders. As a global communications company working with businesses, governments and nonprofits around the world, we are uniquely positioned to help companies listen to and engage with stakeholders to create value for business and society.
As I join a phenomenal group of APCO CSR practitioners in rolling up our sleeves to support our clients in 2013, this is our shared purpose.
