Making the Case for Integrated Reporting

Robin Deliso is an associate director in APCO’s corporate responsibility practice.

A few weeks ago, UBS released a comprehensive report on integrated reporting, sometimes known as the “one report” concept. This concept integrates medium- and longer-term issues into the traditional annual report, giving investors a better overall picture of a company’s trajectory. In a world too beholden to quarterly earnings, the integrated report attempts to counteract some of this all-too-often shortsighted thinking.

The UBS paper outlines integrated reporting’s current state of development and the opportunities and challenges it presents. It is based on comprehensive research and includes several expert interviews.

Hate to say it, but sometimes these things capture more attention when a non-traditional voice speaks. In this case, I hope that UBS as the messenger turns heads that wouldn’t ordinarily look toward this topic when an NGO or academic organization makes the same case.

Read the report! And see why UBS feels companies like BASF, Intel, American Electric Power and Puma are leading the pack.
